Romans 1:16-17 (NIV)
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed – a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’
Sometimes it’s easy to be embarrassed to admit or speak out for the Christian faith. We think things like, I’m in the minority, Christianity is perceived as for simple or needy people, it’s not for the intelligent modern thinker. It just perhaps provides a good moral code alongside other religions.
Paul’s reason not to be ashamed is that it is THE power that saves us. Other religious systems might provide a good way to live, but Jesus offers us direct access to God regardless of our performance. So our intellect that investigates scientific answers to ultimate questions or our religious commitment is nothing compared with the good news that Jesus died for all my wrongdoing so that I have to do nothing but respond in love.
